Psychological Assessment
Jamie Brenner, PSY.D, LLC
Psychological assessment helps answer questions about how a person thinks, learns, feels, and functions. It can promote personal growth by clarifying strengths and challenges, informing treatment, and guiding decisions at home, school, and work.
I specialize in evaluations for:
Autism spectrum disorder
ADHD
Learning disabilities
Adaptive functioning
Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
Mood and anxiety disorders
First-onset psychosis
WHAT MAKES MY EVALUATIONS DIFFERENT
My approach is therapeutic and collaborative. The evaluation itself is a brief therapeutic intervention in which I work alongside you so the evaluation feels useful and brings about change for you or your family.
I make sure you understand assessment results. My reports are written in clear understandable language with a focus on being relatable and practical. I offer a follow-up session so that you have time to ask additional questions and work through any barriers that come up after the feedback appointment.
In addition, every client receives something personal at the end of the process:
Adults receive a clear written letter that answers the specific questions they had about themselves at the beginning of assessment
Children and teens receive a developmentally appropriate letter or illustrated story that explains what I learned about them in a supportive and strengths-based way.
WHAT TO EXPECT: THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS
Initial Consultation: A phone call to learn about the evaluation process and talk about your concerns and what questions you want the evaluation to answer.
Intake Appointment: A 60-minute interview (virtual or in-person) to clarify your goals and gather background information.
Testing Sessions: Testing is completed in one or two in-person sessions. It can include cognitive (IQ), academic, attention, adaptive, social communication, and emotional functioning measures. You can choose to complete psychological questionnaires in-office or at home on the internet.
Collateral Information: With your permission, I may consult with caregivers, teachers, or treatment providers to gather additional information.
Feedback Session: A discussion of the results and recommendations. You will get the psychological evaluation report and I will share a personalized letter (for adults and teens) or an illustrated story (for children) with you.
Optional Follow-Up Support: A second session about a month after the feedback session to answer lingering questions and help support next steps.
Collateral Feedback Sessions: For an additional fee, I can also meet with significant others, teachers, therapists, and other services providers to explain evaluation results.
PAYMENT
All evaluations are private pay as many insurance companies limit the focus of evaluations and only allow for the minimum testing and services needed to assign a diagnosis. My goal is to provide a more comprehensive assessment and spend the time that is needed to create meaningful change.
I provide documentation for out-of-network health insurance reimbursement and I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients submit claims and makes the reimbursement process easier.
Please note that insurance companies vary widely in the types of services they will cover. It is your responsibility to discuss your coverage with your insurance company, prior to the assessment.
